Four high school rivalries will be renewed in 2018 prior to Boston Cannons Home Contests

(April 25th , 2018) – The  Boston Cannons  of  Major League Lacrosse (MLL) , the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that the team will once again host its  High School Rivalry Series presented by  Plymouth Rock Assurance  before select home games during the 2018 season. The series features  match-ups  of top high school lacrosse programs in Massachusetts playing before the Cannons take the field for MLL games at Harvard Stadium and Hingham High School.
The High School Rivalry Series presented by Plymouth Rock Assurance was created in 2017 to celebrate the ever-increasing high school lacrosse talent in Massachusetts. The Cannons will host four high school games during the 2018 season, the first being on May 5 at 3:30 pm at Harvard Stadium prior to the Cannons home opener against the  Dallas Rattlers  at 6:00 pm.
The first game for the High School Rivalry Series will feature  Catholic Memorial  vs.  Malden Catholic . Their first meeting of the season was a tight game throughout, as Malden Catholic took home the win with a score of 11-8.
“This is a very unique and special opportunity for our kids and our school community as a whole,” said Craig Najarian, Director of Athletics for Catholic Memorial School. “We feel very fortunate and thankful to be building a partnership with the Boston Cannons and to have the opportunity to play in historic Harvard Stadium.”
This match-up will feature Catholic Memorial junior goalie  Matt Freitas , who lost his right leg in a car accident over five years ago and has defied the odds to return to the lacrosse field after surgeries and a prosthetic leg.
On May 12 at 3:00 pm,  The Governor’s Academy  will be the home team as they take on  St. Sebastian’s School  before a Cannons game for the second consecutive year. During last season’s High School Rivalry Series match-up, the game was tight to the very end as St. Sebastian School took home the victory over The Governor’s Academy 15-12. Both teams play in the Independent School League, the largest and most competitive prep school lacrosse league in New England. The Governor’s Academy continues to maintain a place among the top school programs in New England, while the St. Sebastian School lacrosse program has grown into a top contender in the ISL.
For the final matchups in the High School Rivalry Series presented by Plymouth Rock Assurance,  Hingham High School Girls  and  Boys Lacrosse  will take on rival schools prior to the Cannons facing the  Chesapeake Bayhawks  at 6:00 pm kick-off   the Cannons in Your Community initiative, bringing Major League Lacrosse action into Greater Boston towns. Starting at 12:00 pm, the Hingham High School girls team will play  Braintree High School  followed by the boys playing  Needham High School  in a MIAA East matchup.
