Cannons Acquire Two From Waivers

BOSTON, MA (February 25, 2014)  The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, have announced the acquisition of two players via waivers today. The Cannons would like to welcome defensemen Eric Martin, and midfielder Brendan Porter to the team.

Eric Martin played high school lacrosse at Norfolk Academy in Virginia Beach, and went on to play at Salisbury University. At Salisbury, Eric won two National Championships, was a two-time All-American, a two-time Defender of the Year, and was also selected as the DIII Overall Player of the Year. Additionally, he was the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2004 and was named to the All-Conference Team in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Following his college career, Martin was drafted by the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers, as well as the NLL’s San Jose Stealth, and was also a member of Team USA.

Brendan Porter had a team-best 29 goals and 23 assists for 52 points his senior year at Columbia High School, which ranks fifth on the school’s all-time list for single-season points by a midfielder. An Honorable Mention All-State and first-team All-Conference choice, Porter also added 125 ground balls. Brendan additionally competed in the prestigious Garden State Games. Brendan went on to play Division I lacrosse at Rutgers University and is also a member of LXM Lacrosse.

“I am excited to add Eric and Brendan to the Cannons roster,” remarked Cannons Head Coach John Tucker. “Eric is a strong, physical, veteran defensemen who we will feel can be an impact player in our lineup.  Brendan is a midfielder who can help us on both sides of the field with his size and athletic ability.

The Cannons open their 2014 season at home on April 27 th.  Game time is set for 1:00pm.
