Cannons Add Five Players To Roster

March 18, 2016
Local talent rounds out Cannons 40-man roster
Boston, MA -- December 20, 2010 –The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today the addition of five players to their roster from the league’s player pool, according to Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud. The Cannons have now filled all 40 available spots on their roster.
Following last week’s supplemental draft where the Cannons drafted 12 players, the final five roster spots were filled by local products.  Added today were attackman Jake Beebe of Sudbury, MA; defenseman Patrick Gaffney of Worcester, MA; defenseman Garrett Pedley of Bow, NH; attackman Kevin Gould of Duxbury, MA; and midfielder Jon Hayes of Waltham, MA.
“We are excited to not only add five talented players to our roster, but five players who were a part of our team last season and all who have strong local ties,” said Kastrud.  “Coach Daye has put together a great squad and we look forward to a competitive training camp this spring as the 40 players look to make the 23-man active roster for opening day.”
Beebe (Springfield College ’09) returns for his third season with the Cannons.  Beebe was originally drafted by the Cannons in the 2009 Collegiate Draft.  Beebe spent the ’09 season on the collegiate inactive list and the 2010 season on the Cannons practice squad.  Beebe’s accolades at Springfield College included being named a 2009 USILA Honorable Mention All-American, ECAC All-Star First Team Selection and the Pilgrim Lacrosse Player of the Year in his senior season.
Gaffney (Endicott College ’07) appeared in one game for the Cannons last season, tallying his first professional assist and collecting three ground balls.  Gaffney was a standout defenseman at Endicott College, and was named the Commonwealth Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference Team in 2007.  Gaffney is currently the head coach at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA.
Pedley (SUNY Albany ’09) appeared in two games for the Cannons in 2010, after making the team’s practice squad to begin the season.  Pedley was a three-time America East All-Conference selection and was the 2009 America East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Pedley recently joined the St. Anselm men’s lacrosse program as assistant coach.
Gould (Bentley College ’10) returns for his second season with the Cannons after being drafted in the 2010 Collegiate Draft.  Gould put together an impressive senior campaign for Bentley, leading the team in scoring with 42 points on 17 goals and 25 assists. He was named a second team All-America by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, and was also named first team All-Conference and All-New England.
Hayes (Western New England College ’08) was a member of the Cannons 2010 practice squad after an All-America career at WNEC.  The midfielder posted 102 points (68 goals, 34 assists) in three seasons at WNEC.  Hayes was an Honorable Mention USILA All-American his junior season and Third Team All-American his senior year.
Next up for the Cannons will be the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft on January 21st, where the Cannons currently hold eight picks including the 4th overall selection.  For the first time in MLL history the collegiate draft will be held prior to the NCAA lacrosse season. Teams will select current collegiate players in their senior year, but these players will not be eligible to sign or play in MLL until their collegiate season is over in late spring.
