Cannons Teammates Attend 17th Annual MDA Muscle Team Event

BOSTON, MA (February 18, 2014) -  Teammates Will Manny and Eric Hagarty of the Boston Cannons, along with various other professional athletes from Boston’s professional sports teams, joined together to support the fight against Muscular Dystrophy (MD) at the 17 th annual Muscle Team event held at the Seaport in Boston, MA on January 23 rd , 2014.

Other members from the Boston Cannons who were in attendance include Martin Bowes, Michael Maggio, VP & General Manager Kevin Barney, as well as members of the Boston Cannons Dance Team.

Muscle Team is a sports-oriented fundraising dinner event that hosted over 400 guests representing Boston's commercial real estate, construction, legal, and financial communities. The event included a VIP reception with athletes, a cocktail reception with live and silent auctions, a seated dinner program that features an on-stage awards ceremony for MDA's Muscle Team, and a live camp sponsorship auction.

Some auction items included autographed sports memorabilia, vacations, sports tickets, gift baskets, and gift certificates. Each year they honor a group of local children who have been nominated for recognition at the event by fellow families and MDA staff members. These children serve as buddies, and are paired with the athletes as their teammates for the night.

This year, the MDA set a record breaking net total of over $258,000 raised! The money raised supports hospital clinics, research teams, public health education, equipment loan closets, and summer camps for kids.

Cannons Attackman Will Manny left the event inspired, stating that he and his teammates “Enjoy coming out and supporting the MDA who are providing some great services for these kids. The perseverance and resilience these kids show on a daily basis is very inspiring.”

“The Cannons were proud to have been part of such a great event that helps so many kids in the greater Boston area,” said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney. “It is always great to see the Boston sports community come together to support a great organization like MDA.”

At the conclusion of the event, the Muscle Team raised enough money for over one hundred campers to attend the MDA’s summer camp. After a night of teamwork, leadership, and motivation, the Cannons players look to prepare for their Season Opener on April 27 th more inspired than ever.
