February 7, 2012 - BOSTON, MA– Rob Hale, a member of the Boston Cannons’ Members Operating Group since August of 2008, has joined the Boston Celtics ownership group as well. Hale, president of Granite Telecommunications, purchased an undisclosed share of the NBA team last week.
“For the last three years, Rob has been a key member of the Cannons ownership team, helping to build our championship organization,” said Matt Dwyer, Cannons president and founding owner. “Likewise, he will be a huge asset to the Celtics, and we look forward to following his involvement in the team.”
“Boston is the best sports town in the country, and I’m honored to now be involved with two of our teams,” said Hale. “I’m committed to being a part of the continued excellence of both the Celtics and Cannons franchises.”
Along with Dwyer, Hale is one of a small group of owners of the Boston Cannons, an original franchise of Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, founded in 2001.
Hale’s connection to his community goes far deeper than sports, as he serves on the Board of Trustees for Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the South Shore YMCA, the Massachusetts Soldier’s Legacy Fund and Deerfield Academy. A coach in the Hingham Youth Lacrosse program, Hale played lacrosse at Connecticut College, where he was a teammate of MLL commissioner David Gross.
Based in Quincy, MA and founded in 2002, Granite Communications is a telephone middleware company that services 86 of the Fortune 100 companies. Hale also owns FoxRock Properties, a Boston commercial real estate firm.
