BOSTON, MA (August 3, 2014) -- The Boston Cannons announced today an update on the medical condition of midfielder Paul Rabil, and the team's playoff possibilities leading into the final week of the MLL Regular Season.
Cannons' General Manager Kevin Barney's statement today on midfielder Paul Rabil:
Paul Rabil suffered an injury to his left foot duing the 2nd quarter of yesterday's game vs. Florida. He was evaluated by our medical staff and brought to St. Elizabeth's Hospital by our head physician Dr. Nascimento. X-rays showed a fracture to the 5th metatarsal in the left foot. Rabil will undergo surgery this week, putting an end to his 2014 season. One of the reasons Paul has chosen to have the surgery here in Boston is so he can be here with the team for our regular season finale on August 9.
The Cannons 16-15 win on Saturday kept them in the hunt for the final playoff spot. Going into the final week of the 2014 MLL regular season, the Cannons need both a win over Rochester and an Ohio loss to Florida on Saturday night. That scenario would leave the Cannons and Machine tied for 4th place with 7-7 records. The Cannons would claim the final playoff spot due to the season series sweep over Ohio (2-0). A Cannons loss on Saturday or an Ohio win would leave the Cannons out of the MLL playoffs for the 2nd consecutive season.
The Cannons host the Rochester Rattlers on Saturday, August 9 at 7:00pm at Harvard Stadium. Tickets are available starting at $16 for individuals, or $13 for gorups of 20+ by calling the Cannons at 617-746-9933 or online at www.ticketmaster.com
