This Saturday, July 14 th, the Boston Cannons head to Hempstead, New York to face the Long Island Lizards at James M. Shuart Stadium. This is the second match up of the two teams for the 2012 season.

The Cannons last met the Lizards at Harvard Stadium on June 9 th, where they were defeated, 13-10.  It was a close game with multiple lead changes, which ultimately concluded in Long Island’s favor. Lizards goaltender Drew Adams was named Bud Light Player of the Game with 16 saves.

The teams also met three times in the 2011 regular season. The Cannons won by scores of 15-12 and 19-8 before losing the final contest in Long Island, 12-11.       

Boston is now coming off a strong win against the Hamilton Nationals, a win that places them 2 nd in the league with a 6-3 record for the season.  In the 15-13 win over the Nationals, Ari Sussman had a break out performance. He was named Bud Light Player of the Game for his career-high five goals and one assist to lead the Cannons offense with six points.

The Cannons still hold three spots in the 10 top scoring leaders in the league. Paul Rabil, Ryan Boyle and Kevin Buchanan remain among the MLL’s top ten scoring leaders this season. Rabil tops the league with a total of 51 points, comprised of 18 goals, four two-point goals, and 29 assists. Ryan Boyle lands at number four with 11 goals and 21 assists for a total of 32 points. Buchanan edges in at number 10 with 18 goals, one two-point goal, and 7 assists. Long Island has two players in the top 10 scoring leaders, at spots 6 and 10 with 28 and 26 points, respectively.

Cannons goalie Jordan Burke is still going strong with 122 saves, 9.55 goals against average and a .578 save percentage, making him the number one goaltender in the league. Long Island’s goalie, Drew Adams, lands at fourth on the list with an 11.88 goals against average and a .531 save percentage.

These final games of the season are crucial for both teams in hopes to secure a spot in MLL Championship Weekend here at Harvard Stadium August 25 & 26.
