Nine Cannons Selected to All-Star Game

March 18, 2016

BOSTON, MA – Monday, July 27 – Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today the 40 players selected to the 2011 Sports Authority Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game.  The All-Star game will be held on Saturday, July 9th at Harvard Stadium in Boston, MA.  The Boston Cannons, who are currently tied for the best record in MLL at 5-1, led the way with nine players being selected.

“We’ve had a great start to our season and we have played well in all aspects of the game.” said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney.  “Having nine players selected is a testament to not only those selected, but to how our entire team has played in the first half of the season.”

The nice selections were evenly spread over the field of play.  The Cannons lead MLL with 92 goals scored in the first six games, and that was reflected with attackmen Matt Poskay, Ryan Boyle and Max Quinzani being selected.  The two-time reigning MLL fastest shot champion Paul Rabil, Pat Heim and Brad Ross were selected at the midfield position.  While the offense has drawn most of the attention, the Cannons defense has given teams trouble all season long.  The backbone of the Cannons defense, Kyle Sweeney and Mitch Belisle, were both named 2011 MLL All-Stars.  Face-off specialist Chris Eck was named to the squad after winning 106 of 179 face-off’s this season.

This year's All-Star game will showcase a new twist as the two winners of the MLL Ultimate Fan Fantasy Contest will be the captains of the two All-Star teams. Additionally, the two winners-Nathan Solomon and Michael Hatala-will get to pick their teams from the 40 players named to the All-Star Game.  The team selection will take place on Friday, July 8 at Harvard Stadium.
