Player News Powered By Citizens Bank: Cannons select Jay Drapeau & Bill O'Brien in 2019 Supplemental Draft

March 21, 2019
QUINCY, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) selected two players in the second 2019 Supplemental Draft today. The Cannons selected Midfielder Jay Drapeau from Loyola University Maryland (3rd Overall) and Defenseman Bill O'Brien (10th Overall).

Drapeau, 22, graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2018 and was named to the USILA All-America Second Team, the Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Third Team and the All-Patriot League First Team as a senior. Drapeau had 31 ground balls as a senior, 74 in his career, and scored at least two points in 16 of 17 games in 2018.

"Drapeau is a proven midfielder from Loyola," Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk stated when asked about his first selection. "He is a great goal scorer that will add another dissension to our offensive group."

Drapeau finished his career with 77 goals and 18 assists for 95 points, while having a .636 SOG%.

O'Brien, 30, a Sacred Heart Alumnus of 2010, and founder of "Thrilla Nation", is mostly known for his smarts and toughness in the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

"A workhorse on and off the field, O'Brien had a long tenure with the NLL, being a veteran that we are very excited about," Coach Quirk added. "His leadership, toughness and ability to compete at the highest level possible will help our players on both sides of the ball."

While in the NLL, O'Brien played for the New England Black Wolves from 2015 until 2017, then picked up by the Buffalo Bandits for 2018. He finished his NLL career with 52 games played and 112 LB's collected.

The Cannons inaugural season at Veterans Memorial Stadium kicks off on June 1 vs the Ohio Machine. Tickets are On Sale now, so call (617) 746-9933 or get your ticket on Ticketmaster today.
