QUINCY, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), announced today that they have agreed on a trade with the Atlanta Blaze. The Cannons will receive Defenseman James Leary from Atlanta in exchange for FOS Nathan Farrell and the 39th overall pick in the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft.

Sean Quirk stated. "James had a standout career at the University of Vermont and reigns from the New England region during his time at Governor's Academy."
Leary, a graduate of UVM and The Governor's Academy, was added to the Practice Squad by the Blaze on June 7 from the MLL Collegiate Player Pool. While at UVM, Leary was a two-year captain of the Catamounts Men's lacrosse program, finishing his collegiate career in the UVM record books. He is in the Top 10 for Caused Turnovers (Career/Season), Ground Balls (Career), Games Played (Career) and Games Started (Career). Since graduating in May, Leary began coaching at the 3D Georgia Lacrosse club team. Leary was also drafted by the Philadelphia Wings in the 2019 National Lacrosse League (NLL) on September 25 in Philadelphia, Pa. Leary has yet to see action in the NLL.
Farrell was selected ninth by the Cannons in the 2019 MLL Supplemental Draft on October 29, 2018. Farrell graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 2018 finishing his RIT career with 29 games played, 11 total points (two goals, nine assists) and was 299 for 457 (.654%) at the face-off position. For his first two years in the NCAA, Farrell played for the Syracuse Orange and played in five games, going 4 for 5 at the face-off position.
"Leary brings a toughness through creating turnovers on the field," Quirk added. "He is a smart defenseman that will fit perfectly into our system."
