Player News powered by Citizens Bank: Cannons agree to trade Davey Emala to Ohio for Mark Cockerton & 2019 Draft Pick

May 30, 2018
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that they have reached an agreement to trade Attackman Davey Emala to the Ohio Machine. The Cannons will receive Attackman Mark Cockerton & a 2019 7th Round Draft Pick.

The trade was made official this morning at 9 AM by Major League Lacrosse, with the announcement made shortly after.

Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk added his thoughts to the trade this morning with the following:

"At the request of Davey, we have made a trade with Ohio for Mark Cockerton. Davey provided great energy to the Cannons for a number of years. His involvement with the team, the community and at Cannons clinics is much appreciated. With hesitation on this end we granted his request and wish him the best of luck.”

Cockerton, 23, (University of Virginia, '14) was drafted in 2014 by the Rochester Rattlers in the 7th Round. Due to Virginia's run in the NCAA Tournament, Cockerton played in only nine regular season games, leading the Rattlers in goals (24) during his time. He was acquired by the Ohio Machine in 2016 and finished there with 29 Games Played, 61 Goals, 17 Assists, and 42 Ground Balls.

Emala, 27, (University of North Carolina, '13) was drafted by the Rochester Rattlers in 2013, but did not see any action in his first year in the league. The Boston Cannons acquired Emala in 2015 after spending the next two seasons with the Charlotte Hounds, playing in only three games. Emala had a career season with the Cannons, being awarded as the 2015 Brine Most Improved Player. Emala finished his Cannons Career 8th in Cannons history in Goals (95) while collecting 129 points in a Cannons uniform.

Cockerton will be available for this Saturday's contest versus the Florida Launch at Endicott College. Face-Off is set for 6:02 PM at Hempstead Stadium in Beverly, MA for this Saturday. For tickets, call (617) 746-933, email, or  CLICK HERE!
