BOSTON CANNONS TRAVEL TO LONG ISLAND
TO FACE LIZARDS ON THURSDAY NIGHT
Cannons look to extend season opening win streak
BOSTON, MA - Tuesday, May 25, 2010 – The Boston Cannons (2-0) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will travel to Long Island, NY on Thursday, May 27th to take on the Long Island Lizards (0-2) at 7:30 PM at LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University for their first away game of the 2010 season. The game will be televised LIVE on Comcast Sports Net New England at 7:30pm on Thursday.
CANNONS LAST GAME: The Cannons are riding a wave of momentum into this game, having had a record night last Saturday against the Chicago Machine. The record-breaking crowd of 10,615 fans incited the Cannons to extend their winning streak to 2 games to begin the 2010 season, and their winning streak over the Machine to four games with their 17-15 victory. Matt Poskay scored his 100th career goal, and Paul Rabil did not miss a beat upon his return to the Boston Cannons, amassing a hat trick during the game. Kevin Buchanan was named the Bud Light MVP of the Game with his stellar performance of 3 goals and 2 assists. The Cannons led by as many as six goals, and their strong offense allowed them to withstand a late surge by the Machine.
CANNONS VS. LONG ISLAND IN 2009: The Cannons and the Lizards have a thrilling history that should be continued in this week’s game. The last six games between the teams have been decided by only one goal, and the Cannons come into this game with a score to settle, having lost all three games last year to the Lizards. Game One last year was the season opener, and the match was marked by strong defense leading to a tight 9-8 Lizards victory. The second game lived up to the hype, with the Cannons taking the Lizards to overtime before losing 14-13 in the contest. The tough losses continued in Game three, where despite the four goal contribution of Paul Rabil, the Cannons again fell to the Lizards with an 11-10 defeat.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Cannons take a two game winning streak into this game, hoping to begin the season with three straight wins for the first time since 2005. They are also currently on a three game losing streak to the Lizards, and on Thursday night, one of these streaks will come to an end. Coach Bill Daye continues to look for major contributions from newcomers Kevin Buchanan, Brad Ross, Pat Heim and Mike Stone, all of whom have been setting the standard through the past two games. Mike Poskay has been the high scorer on the Cannons roster, averaging four goals a game.
