2019 Boston Cannons Junior Cannons Team

November 5, 2018
We're officially launching a Junior Cannons program. This program offers elite junior athletes the opportunity to wear the Boston Cannons Shield and represent the best lacrosse players in New England. With two teams (graduating classes of 2026-2027 and 2024-2025), these teams will compete in two local showcase games in Boston and at least one other showcase event in another Major League Lacrosse city, prior to a Cannons away game. Cannons’ Head Coach  Sean Quirk and Assistant Coach  Ben Rubeor will take point on these new teams. These programs will be held to the same professional standards of the Boston Cannons, as they will wear Cannons uniforms, including their helmets. Read the full press release here.

When does the Junior Cannon team play?
The Junior Cannons will have 4-6 practices which will be held in the Boston area most likely prior to the actual Boston Cannons practices. The Junior Cannons will have 2 home showcases prior to home Cannons games and 1-2 away showcases prior to Cannons away games. All of these events will take place towards the end of the summer in Aug/Sept after the town and club seasons are over.

How many players will be on each team?
We plan to take 6 attack, 6 defense, 2 goalies, 2 faceoff, 2 LSM and 8 midfielders for each team. We will have a 2024/25 team and a 2026/27 team.

Who will coach the teams?
Our Head Coach Sean Quirk and our Offensive Coordinator Ben Rubeor will coach these teams. Cannons players may help out at practices as well!

What does the program cost?
There is no cost to be on the team. However, you will be responsible for your travel and meals to the away game/s. There is also an $85 cost to tryout which does include a pinnie that you will get to keep.

Where can I tryout for the team?
The first open tryout will be held at Thayer Academy on Monday, November 12. The 2026/27 tryouts will run from 10am to noon, with the 2024/25 running 12:30pm to 2:30pm. The second set of open tryouts will be on November 17 at Endicott College. The 2026/27 tryouts will run from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and the 2024/25 will follow shortly after, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The third open tryout will be on Sunday, December 9th at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury. Both tryouts will run from 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Do I have to go to all of the tryouts?
No, you only need to attend one tryout to be considered.

When will the teams be selected?
We plan to have the teams selected by the end of December-beginning of January.

Can I still play for my club or town team?
Yes, we plan to have the games and practices in August/September after most town and club teams have wrapped up. We do not intend for this to be a year round program which will keep you from your existing club and town league commitments.

Do I get a uniform?
You will be given a uniform and a helmet at no cost. If you would like other gear, we will have a New Balance online store where you can purchase other optional official Junior Cannons gear.

Who can I contact with questions?
Bonnie Lattimore will be the main contact for the Junior Cannons. She can be reached at or 617-890-6452.
