It was cloudy and cool when the players and coaches arrived at Glastonbury High School on Saturday, but a quick practice got the team warm and ready to play. Then, just in time for the clinic for local youth players, the sun came out, creating the perfect spring lacrosse weekend.
The Cannons held a one-hour clinic for about 100 Glastonbury Youth Lacrosse players, who learned face-off techniques from Chris Eck and John Ortolani, scooping ground balls from Matt Smalley and Scott Kahoe, shooting from Pat Heim and Brad Ross, and a lot more skills
After a private autograph session, where the Glastonbury players got everything from their new white Cannons hats to t-shirts and team photos signed by all the Cannons, the team took on the Connecticut Valley Lacrosse Club in a scrimmage. The Cannons dominated the scrimmage, posting a 20-6 win, getting back into the groove of working together in anticipation of the season.
Relaxing on Saturday night, the coaches and a few Cannons watched the exciting Syracuse win over Notre Dame, including this crazy between-the-legs goal by Stephen Keogh, as well as the disappointing Blazers loss to end their NLL season.
The team returned to the field Sunday morning to go through more drills, working mostly on game situations and team work, before heading home.
Stay tuned this week for updates as the coaches get closer to naming the 25-man active roster to begin the season. Training camp finishes this weekend at Harvard Stadium before the home opener on May 14th.
