The Cannons reacquired defenseman Ryan McClay in a trade on Wednesday. McClay did not play Major League Lacrosse in 2011. His most recent appearance in the league was with the Boston Cannons in 2010. The Cannons sent a conditional 2013 Collegiate Draft pick to the Rochester Rattlers for the veteran.
McClay, a Cornell graduate, has played seven professional seasons – five with the New Jersey Pride and two with the Boston Cannons. In 78 career MLL games he has collected 298 ground balls.
In 2010, McClay played for Team USA at the Federation of International Lacrosse Men’s World Championship. Fellow Cannons Ryan Boyle, Paul Rabil and Kyle Sweeney were also members of the US team. The United States took home the gold medal, and McClay was named to the All-World team.
McClay is an excellent addition for the Cannons, who ranked second in MLL in goals against average (11.08) in 2011. He will add both a veteran presence and an All-World skill to an already tough defensive unit.
