Cannons Draftees Tracker - Part III


Kevin Cunningham and the Villanova Wildcats posted a 2-1 record in the past week. The Wildcats topped #18 Drexel by a score of 14-9 at home. Cunningham tallied 1 goal and 2 assists.

Villanova dropped its first game of the season, 13-9 against Delaware. The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, but only scored 3 goals in the last 45 minutes. Cunningham notched 1 goal in the loss.

On Saturday, the Wildcats bounced back with a win against Penn. Junior Max Hart scored with one second remaining in the fourth quarter to give Villanova the victory, 8-7. Kevin Cunningham tallied just 1 assist.

The #4 University of North Carolina Tar Heels hit a bump in the road this past week. The Tar Heels fell to unranked Lehigh at home in a 9-8 heartbreaker. Draftee Mark Staines recovered 2 ground balls and recorded 2 caused turnovers.

On Tuesday, a second straight team earned its first victory of the year against the Tar Heels, as UNC lost to Penn, 10-6. Staines scooped up 2 ground balls and caused a turnover in the loss.

North Carolina recovered on Saturday against Princeton in the Konica Minolta Face-off Classic. The Tar Heels won 9-8, as Staines continued to dominate on the face-off wing. He recovered 3 ground balls and forced a turnover.

The Penn Quakers and Will Koshansky were also victims of Lehigh, dropping a 10-4 contest at home. The Quakers finished the week with a record of 1-2, with the lone win coming against UNC. Cannons draftee Koshansky tallied 1 goal, 7 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers in the three-game stretch.

The top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers continued to roll, posting a 4-0 record on the week. The wins came against Mount St. Mary’s, Syracuse, Vermont, and Cornell. Cannons draftee Chris Clements scored 1 goal, recovered 15 ground balls and caused 3 turnovers.

JJ Gilbane and the Cornell Big Red began their season with a three-game winning streak against in-state opponents Binghamton, Army and Canisius. At the Konica Minolta Face-off Classic, the Big Red dropped an overtime contest to the University of Virginia. Gilbane has tallied 5 goals in 4 games for Cornell.

The Yale Bulldogs dropped to 2-2 on the season. Greg Mahony recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in the Bulldogs’ win against Albany. On Tuesday Yale fell to Sacred Heart, 13-12. Mahony posted a hat-trick in the loss. On Saturday the Mahony and the #16 Bulldogs lost to #15 Lehigh, 11-7. The Cannons draftee scored 1 goal and added 1 assist.

Martin Bowes and the Hartford Hawks played a tough schedule this week, posting a 1-2 record. The losses came to #12 Denver and #5 Massachusetts. Bowes recorded 3 goals and 4 assists on the week.
