The #10 Villanova Wildcats had a tough week against ranked opponents. Both #16 Princeton and #7 Maryland got the best of Villanova. Draftee Kevin Cunningham notched a goal in each of the Wildcats’ losses. Villanova takes the field against #9 Syracuse on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Carrier Dome.
On Friday, the #11 University of North Carolina Tar Heels fell to their in-state rival, the #15 Duke University Blue Devils. Mark Staines collected 2 ground balls, caused a turnover and won his only face-off for the Tar Heels. North Carolina will host Maryland on Saturday at 12:00 pm on ESPNU.
In a battle of draftees, JJ Gilbane and the #4 Cornell Big Red topped Greg Mahony and the Yale Bulldogs, 8-7. Gilbane scored 2 goals for Cornell, while Mahony was scoreless on 11 shots. Cornell hosts Denver at 4:00 pm today. Yale will host Princeton on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
The Penn Quakers fell to Princeton, 11-4. Will Koshansky caused a turnover and fielded a ground ball for the Quakers. Penn will host JJ Gilbane and Cornell on Saturday.
The top-ranked University of Virginia Cavaliers earned a road victory against Ohio State this weekend. Chris Clements caused 2 turnovers and recovered a ground ball in the win. The Cavaliers host Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
Martin Bowes netted a hat-trick in Hartford’s 22-17 loss to Siena on Wednesday. The Hawks bounced back against Quinnipiac, winning 15-12. Bowes netted one goal in the victory. Hartford plays Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 3:00 pm and Wagner on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
