07/05/2007 10:26 AM - Boston Cannons midfielder Matt Poskay is making his first trip to the MLL All-Star game in his second season in the league. Through eight games in the 2007 season Poskay is the team’s second leading scorer from the midfield with 16 total points on 14 goals and 2 assists.
“It’s a great honor to be selected to the all-star team. There are so many great players in this league and I feel privileged to compete with all of them,” Poskay stated.
Poskay’s best game of the season came at Long Island on May 25 when he scored four points in the Cannons 16-12 loss to the tune of three goals and one assist.
Poskay snapped a career scoring streak in recent weeks. Until June 9, 2007 Matt Poskay had scored at least one goal in all of his previous MLL games. It is a streak that spanned twelve regular season games and one playoff game. But when the Cannons traveled to Philadelphia Poskay was blanked from the scoreboard in the Cannons 16-13 loss.
In 2006 as an MLL rookie Poskay appeared in eight games and scored 25 goals. Poskay scored a career high five goals at Baltimore on July 8, 2006. He was named the team rookie of they year and is the only Cannons rookie to ever lead the team in goals to go along with setting the Cannons rookie scoring record.
Matt Poskay was drafted out of the University of Virginia in the second round after winning the National Championship in his senior season against the Massachusetts Minutemen and being named a second team All-American. Poskay played in 45 career games for the Cavaliers, scored 47 goals and added 5 assists.
Poskay has earned the nod to the Eastern Conference All-Star roster and will participate in the skills competition by shooting for the fastest shot at Harvard Stadium on July 8, 2007.
“I am thrilled to be playing in Boston for the All-star game. Boston has in my opinion the best fans in the MLL and I am excited to get another weekend to play in front of them,” Poskay said.
