CANNONS ADD THREE FROM LEAGUE PLAYER POOL
BOSTON, MA (March 11, 2014) The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, have announced the acquisition of three players from the league player pool today in preparation for the start of training camp. The Cannons added midfielder Tim Harder, defenseman Ryan Hollenbaugh, and midfielder Kyle Sminkey to their 40-man roster.
Tim Harder made his MLL debut with Hamilton on July 30th, 2011 after being acquired by the Nationals as an undrafted free agent. He played his college lacrosse at Syracuse University from 2008-2011 where he won back-to-back national championships. In 2011, he played in all 17 games as a defensive midfielder, and contributed two goals, 14 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the year while also going 3-for-8 (.375) at the faceoff.
Ryan Hollenbaugh is a New England native from Glastonbury, CT and played college lacrosse at UMass-Amherst. Ryan competed in 56 games while making 45 starts for the Minutemen, where he tallied 68 groundballs and 46 caused turnovers while playing at close defense and long-stick midfield. Ryan registered five points on four goals and an assist and won the only faceoff taken during his career at UMass. Hollenbaugh was a three-time All-CAA Second Team selection, selected as a NEILA Senior Scholar-Athlete in 2013 and also participated in the NEILA East/West All-Star Game.
Kyle Sminkey played in all 15 games in his final season at the University of Vermont, where he finished tied for third on the team in goals (15) and fifth overall in points (16). Sminkey recorded back-to-back hat tricks at Binghamton and Holy Cross. Sminkey transferred to Vermont from Hofstra University. Prior to that he played lacrosse at Hartford HS in White River, CT where he was first-team All-State and team captain as a senior. Sminkey is currently the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Johnson and Wales University .
“We have rounded out our roster as we set to begin training camp on April 5,” stated Cannons GM Kevin Barney. “Tim, Ryan and Kyle not only add depth at some needed areas for us, but they each have the talent and athleticism to compete for a spot on our 25-man roster come opening day.”
The Cannons will host three weekends of training camp in April prior to the season opener at home on April 27th. Training camp will open on April 5-6 at Harvard Stadium, followed by a weekend in Schenectady, NY on April 12-13 and finishing up with a single session on April 19 at Harvard.
