May 6, 2014 - The Cannons will host their second home game of the season this Saturday evening as they host the Denver Outlaws at Harvard Stadium. The Cannons started off the season strong with a 15-9 win over Chesapeake at home before falling on the road to Rochester in a close one, 8-7 last weekend. The Outlaws come into this game riding a 22-game regular season unbeaten streak.
"A MLL team is a sum of its parts; we all need to show up to the game against Denver," Coach Tucker reiterated.
The Cannons are 7-5 all-time against Denver, but were 0-2 last season losing 14-10 and 24-14. Denver went undefeated in the regular season in 2013, with a 14-0 record.
The Cannons fell to 1-1 on the season with loss at Rochester last Friday night. The Cannons defense kept them in the game and continued to show their improvements over last season, holding the Rattlers to just 8 goals. The offense took a full half to get on track, scoring just once in the first half on a Will Manny strike in the 1st quarter.
The Cannons came out firing in the second half, scoring three straight goals to tie the score at 4. The Rattlers would respond with three of their own to stretch their lead back to 3. Kevin Buchanan and Mike Stone finished the 3rd Quarter scoring as the Cannons trailed by only 1 heading into the final quarter. After trading goals in the 4th both defenses clamped down for the final 3 minutes of play. The Cannons had the final possession and with under 10 seconds to play Brent Adams raced down the field, faked out a defender and had a great look, but was turned away by the Rattlers goalie John Galloway and time expired.
Last week, in their first home game of the season, the Outlaws rallied late to beat the Ohio Machine, 14-12 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The win is Denver’s 22nd straight regular-season victory. The Outlaws have not lost a regular-season game since June 23, 2012. Denver trailed 11-7 with under 12 minutes to play in the 4th quarter against Ohio before scoring 7 of the games last 8 goals, including 2 each from Jeremy Sieverts and Eric Law.
Boston leads the all-time regular season series against the Outlaws winning 7 of the 12 games played, but Denver has won 4 of its 5 games against Boston in the last 3 seasons. Boston is 0-3 at Harvard Stadium since 2011 against Denver. Their last win against Denver at Harvard Stadium came in 2010 in a 16-13 tightly contested game.
In 2009 Denver and Boston faced off 3 times twice in the regular season and once in the playoffs. The teams split the 2 games played in the regular season with each team winning by 1 goal at the other team’s home stadium. In the 2009 semifinal Denver defeated the Cannons 11-10 at a neutral field in Annapolis, MD.
The Boston Cannons are 6-7 all time in their 3rd Game of the season and are 6-7 all time in their 2nd Home Game of the season.
