May 14, 2014 - The Cannons will host their third home game of the season this Saturday evening as they host the Charlotte Hounds at Harvard Stadium. The Cannons started off the season strong with a 15-9 win over Chesapeake at home before falling on the road to Rochester in a close one, 8-7 and a heartbreaking overtime loss to Denver 10-9 last weekend.
"Last weekend, we had 33 shots and 9 went in. We'll keep pressure on and keep moving balls to the top, and goals will come. I like our chances," Coach Tucker said.
The Cannons are 4-0 all-time against the Hounds, winning both of their games last season 15-13, and 17-16 in overtime. Paul Rabil tallied 8 points in the second game against the Hounds last season with 5 goals and 3 assists.
So far in 2014, the Cannons are 1-1 at Harvard Stadium, with an overall record of 28-19 at home since 2007. The Cannons opened up the season strong with a 15-9 win over reigning MLL champs, Chesapeake, before falling two close ones against Rochester and Denver.
In the game last Saturday, the Denver Outlaws extended their regular season winning streak to 23 games by defeating the Cannons by a score of 10-9 in a thrilling overtime victory.
"We're inconsistent at times, and anxious, but other than that we're very close to being very good," Coach Tucker stated. "We're losing games by 1 goal. Defense is solid, we just need to share the ball more and create time."
In the 2013 season the Hounds final record was 7-7, holding fourth in the leagues standings. More impressively, however, was their defeat of the Denver Outlaws in the semi finals to make it to the MLL Championship before falling to the Chesapeake Bayhawks 10-9.
Last season, in 12 games played, the Hounds' Matt Danowski held 49 points, fourth best in the league playing two less games than the three leading scorers.
Charlotte Hounds head coach Mike Cerino added, "The Cannons have tremendous pride, MLL veterans in players and coaches. We've got to bring it."
Both teams made significant moves in the off-season. The biggest moves were the Cannons adding all-world defenseman Brodie Merrill in a trade with Florida. Expect this game to be a hard fought match as both teams look for their second win of 2014, and the Cannons try to defend their undefeated record against Charlotte.
In the teams history, the Boston Cannons are 8-5 in their 4th Game of the Season
The Cannons are 10-3 on their 3rd Home Games in team history
In the month of May, the Boston Cannons are 15-14 overall in the Regular Season
