Cannons Open Season April 28 and Look to Defend the Steinfeld Trophy at Home as Host of the
2012 Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend
BOSTON, MA - March 1, 2011 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, today announced that individual game tickets for all seven 2012 home games at Harvard Stadium will go on sale at 10 AM this Monday, March 5. Tickets to the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend, including two semi-finals on August 25 and the championship game on August 26, go on sale Monday as well. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Cannons at 617-746-9933, through Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets.
"As the reigning MLL champions, we can't wait to get back in front of our home crowd at Harvard Stadium for the 2012 season," said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney. "We'll have a great pre-game ceremony for our fans with the trophy, rings and a few surprises at our home opener on April 28. Our goal will be to defend our title here at home in August."
The 2012 season opener is Saturday, April 28 vs. the Rochester Rattlers. The Cannons went 2-0 against the last place Rattlers in 2011. A pre-game ceremony will include dropping a championship banner, and presenting the Steinfeld Trophy and championship rings. The early season home stand continues on Saturday, May 5 vs. the expansion Charlotte Hounds and Saturday, May 12 vs. the Hamilton Nationals. Though playing its first year in the league, Charlotte brings major star power with Matt Danowski, Stephen Berger and Billy Bitter. May 12 will be a re-match of the 2011 championship game as the Cannons duel Casey Powell and the Nationals.
On Saturday, June 9 the Cannons will return home to face New York rivals the Long Island Lizards. The Cannons edged the Lizards 2-1 last season, winning both games at home. The Cannons will be offering a special Family 4-Pack for the June 9 game that includes 4 tickets, hot dogs and sodas for as low as $84. June 9th is also Girls Lacrosse Night at the Boston Cannons, with a free clinic for youth girls teams and groups prior to the game.
The Cannons conclude their home schedule with three straight games on Thursday, July 19,Saturday, July 28 and Saturday, August 4. The Thursday night game, perfect for young professionals in Boston to attend after work, sees the Cannons face off against the Denver Outlaws. Always a tough match-up, the Cannons took two of three games in 2011, but both wins by a one-goal margin. On July 28, the game against the Chesapeake Bayhawks begins at 2pm and will air live on ESPN2. Finally, the Cannons end their regular season home schedule against the Ohio Machine, the other expansion team in 2012 who acquired former Cannons Matt Casey and Chazz Woodson in drafts. Family 4-Packs are also available for the last regular season home game.
The 2012 MLL Championship Weekend takes place August 25 & 26, bringing the best players in the world to Boston for a weekend of lacrosse. The two semi-final match-ups will be played on Saturday at 1pm and 4pm and the championship game on Sunday at 3pm. Weekend packages for all three games are available for $40; single-day tickets for Saturday or Sunday are $25. Group rates are $30 for the weekend or $20 for each day.
