2017 Summer Internships & Game Day Volunteers

The Boston Cannons are now accepting cover letters and resumes for 2017 Summer Internships and Game Day volunteers. Summer internships will run April 24th – August 11th and Game Day volunteers will be responsible for ALL seven Cannons home games at Harvard Stadium. SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

In-Office Interns:
Summer interns will work 2-4 days/week; in a combination of office, game days, and community events covering weekdays, evenings and/or weekends.  A general schedule will be set for each intern, but flexibility is needed to work out of office and weekend events.  All interns may assist in general office operations and will learn about the various aspects of running a professional sports team.

Game Day Interns:
Game Day interns will work each of the seven home games. These game day positions will vary based on the interns’ interests and strengths. Game days are up to 16-hour days that consist of various tasks, including game operations, marketing, event planning, and more. A general schedule will be set for each intern, but flexibility is needed to work other weekend events.  All interns will have the opportunity for in-office hours if necessary for class credit and will learn about the various aspects of running a professional sports team.

IN-OFFICE INTERNSHIPS:

The Bruce Lerch Junior Journalist Scholarship
The Boston Cannons created the Bruce Lerch Junior Journalist Scholarship position in 2016, in honor of the late Bruce Lerch. Bruce Lerch was an incredible journalist at the Boston Herald who left a lasting legacy on the sidelines of youth and high school sports, specifically with his coverage of lacrosse. The Boston Cannons want to solidify Bruce's legacy by offering an opportunity to learn more in the field of reporting and/or photography. The Junior Journalist is a current high school student who will cover all Boston Cannons news and events while learning about the sports media industry. For more information or to download the application for the $1000 scholarship , CLICK HERE.

Marketing Operations (1 position available)
The Marketing Operations intern will act as a liaison between the communication departments including marketing, PR, and sponsorship. The goal is to ensure efficiency and consistency across all departments. The candidate should have a strong design background in software programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and iMovie. Flexibility and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is a crucial aspect of this position. Various office projects will also be assigned as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Works directly in conjunction with the Event Coordinator and Partnership & Marketing Manager
  2. Communicate internal information across all departments
  3. Ensure consistency in all marketing materials

The Digital Media intern will play an important role in the planning and execution of all content posted to our various social channels. Corporate Partnership Activation (2 positions available)
These individuals will work in the Corporate Partnership department to efficiently manage the game day activation deliverables for each team partner. It will require interns to work 1-3 days/week at Harvard Stadium plus ALL home games, and occasional events around the Boston area. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Reports to front office members only
  2. Lead generation for potential new sponsors
  3. Work with Partnership Coordinator to develop weekly game recaps for partners
  4. During game weeks, organize all materials for fan zone and events
  5. Manage all partner logistics for pregame/halftime/post game events
  6. Work with food/beverage vendors on game day; organize all logistics and needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Currently pursuing a College/University degree in the field of business
  2. Ability to lift 45lbs. and work on feet for extended periods of time
  3. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

Event Operations (2 positions available)
The Event Operations interns will play an important role in the planning and execution of all Cannons events. These interns will work directly with the Corporate Partnerships and Event Planning team on a day to day basis to plan and promote all Cannons based events. Organization and proactive planning are crucial aspects of this position.  A desire to learn and work with the various departments within our organization is also important. It will require interns to work 2-3 days/week in office plus all seven home games and occasional events around the Boston area.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Works directly with the Corporate Partnerships and Event Planning team on a day to day basis
  2. Manage and update the event calendar weekly
  3. Manage the execution of setup and breakdown at all Cannons events

The Game & Team Operations intern will play a pivotal role in the planning of all game and team activities. These interns will work directly with the General Manager on a day to day basis to assist with team planning and game operations. Attention to detail and proactive planning are crucial aspects of this position.  A desire to learn and work with the various departments that a professional sports team implements is also important. Various office projects will also be assigned as needed. It will require interns to work 2-3 days/week in office plus ALL home games. Must be available for occasional events around the Boston area.  
RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Works directly with the General Manager on a day to day basis
  2. Work with the GM on developing and implementing team related events (i.e. skills clinics, open tryout, training camp)
  3. Assist the GM with coordination of team equipment, travel and timelines for all home and away games
  4. Liaison with team vendors at home (stadium security, stadium concessions, TV production, team hotel) and on the road (team hotel and ground transportation)

The Ticket Operations intern will assist in growing and managing our customer contact database. They will be responsible for updating our various customer databases including CRM, Groupmatics, and Constant Contact. Candidates must have experience in quantitative analysis and be comfortable handling large amounts of data in Excel. Various office projects will also be assigned as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Manage and update the various customer databases (Ticketmaster, Groupmatics, Salesforce)
  2. Process ticket orders using the Ticketmaster Host system
  3. Answer inbound customer phone calls
  4. Gather and format customer data into useful information
  5. Add new customers into the various databases
  6. Gather customer data from each department and add to respective database

Ticket Service (2 position available)
The Ticket Service intern will work with the Director of Ticket Sales to assist in all aspects of ticket sales for the Boston Cannons. The intern will learn about one of the most important aspects of professional sports: filling the stadium with fans.  The ticket service intern will assist with season ticket promotions, database management, group sales initiatives, courtesy follow-up calls to past customers, community events, and potentially making sales calls.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Work with the Director of Ticket Sales in all aspects of ticket sales for the Cannons
  2. Manage the seating chart for Season Ticket Members and VIP groups
  3. Assist with group sales initiatives, database management, season ticket promotions and more
  4. Make sales calls to current and past ticket buyers – must be comfortable on the phone
  5. Serve inbound customers; answering phones, forwarding messages, confirming customer orders
  6. Utilize ticketing system and database to assist in prospective leads
  7. Ready to assist with any other duties assigned by Ticket Sales Director
QUALIFICATIONS:

GAME DAY INTERNSHIPS:  

GAME DAY OPERATIONS INTERNS & VOLUNTEERS 
Game Day interns will work with different departments as assigned to ensure that all aspects of a Cannons game day run smoothly. These interns are expected to be available for all seven home games, with the opportunity to attend other Cannons events, and gain valuable work experience within a professional sports organization through a unique hands-on internship. A successful applicant will demonstrate strong organizational skills along with initiative, resourcefulness, and an ability to collaborate with fellow team members for the achievement of department goals. Interns are encouraged to pursue areas of interest and have the opportunity for in-office experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist front office staff with various tasks associated with in-game promotions, game day entertainment and fan experience, as well as other game day functions.
  2. Assist with pre-game setup, including preparing signage, setting up field boards, building the Fan Zone, and more.
  3. Ensure that all fans attending Cannons games find the experience enjoyable by being knowledgeable about the team and the facilities.

Departments Available:
Merchandise (4 positions):
These individuals will work directly with the Merchandise Sales Manager/Supervisor to efficiently manage the supply chain and maximize sales on game day. These interns will ensure the set up and breakdown of all merchandise tents, as well as work these areas throughout game day. It will require interns to work all home games and inventory days as needed by Sales Manager.
Fan Zone Assistants (2 positions)
These interns will report to the Fan Zone Manager and ensure the set up and breakdown of the Fan Zone prior to all home games. Will act as floaters to help with setup and breakdown of signage, etc. Must be available for all seven home games.
Promotions (1 position)
The In-Game Contest Manager will report directly to PR/Marketing department  as well as the game host to ensure that all materials are ready for game host and dancers prior to the start of the game. Must be outgoing and able to interact with fans. Must be available for all seven home games.
Operations (5-8 positions)
These interns will be responsible for ensuring the set-up and breakdown of all Cannons game day materials. This includes field boards, signage, club set-up, and more. Interns must be available for all seven home games as well as the night before games to set up field boards. Two of these interns will be running game clock and shot clock during games. Must be available for all seven home games.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Currently pursuing a College/University degree in sports or business preferred but high school students considered on case-by-case basis
  2. Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

JUNIOR REPORTER (1 position available)
The Junior Reporter will be invited to report on all things Boston Cannons, while learning all about the sports media industry. The individual will play an important role in the promotion of Cannons events and in-season coverage. The intern must have strong writing skills and can conceptualize and complete original content for the website and social media outlets. This is a freelance position, where the intern is expected to self-govern while meeting any and all deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Report on all Cannons community events and preseason coverage
  • Promoting all content through personal social media networks
  • Create weekly content to be featured on Cannons website
  • Assist in the drafting of press releases and the team newsletter
  • Develop buzz around the team using strategic media channels
  • Responsible for submitting a minimum of eight (8) unique articles throughout the Cannons season
QUALIFICATIONS:

TEAM MASCOT "BOOMER" (1 position available)
The Cannons are looking for a highly energetic and motivated individual to take on the role of our team mascot, Boomer for the 2017 season. This individual
would be responsible for attending ALL seven home games, and any community events. This position will receive a stipend for hours worked.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Perform at ALL seven home games at Harvard Stadium during the 2017 season
  2. Perform and/or provide support to all necessary community and team appearances. This includes but is not limited to sponsors, charities, media and private functions
  3. Work directly with Game Operations, and Community Relations departments with any pregame/in-game/post game promotions
QUALIFICATIONS:
