GOALIE JORDAN BURKE NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Burke Made 15 Saves in the Cannons’ 16-8 Victory Over the Charlotte Hounds
June 18, 2012 – BOSTON, MA– Goalie Jordan Burke earned Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors following his 15-save performance in Charlotte on Saturday, leading the Cannons to a 16-8 win over the Hounds to snap a two-game losing streak.
Burke allowed just four goals in almost 54 minutes of play: one each in the first and third quarters, two in the second, and none in the first 8:39 of the fourth quarter. Charlotte leading scorers Stephen Berger and Matt Danowski were held scoreless while Burke was in net.
Burke is leading MLL with 91 saves, a .583 save percentage, and a 9.36 goals against average in 416:42 minutes played, the most in the league.
“Jordan’s a warrior,” said Cannons head coach Steve Duffy. “It was a warrior effort Saturday night in goal. He made crucial saves at crucial times when we needed him, as he’s done all season.”
Burke was named Defensive Player of the Week twice during the 2011 season for a pair of 24-save performances, first in week four in a blowout over the Long Island Lizards and again on August 6 against the Hamilton Nationals. Burke earned MLL Championship Weekend MVP honors as he led the Cannons to their first-ever Steinfeld Trophy with 23 saves and a .523 save percentage on the weekend.
