This Saturday, the Boston Cannons host the Long Island Lizards at Harvard Stadium, their first home game since the May 12 th and the last until Thursday, July 19th. This is the first 2012 season meeting of the two teams.
Last week, the Cannons suffered their first loss of the season to the Rochester Rattlers and now head into this game with a 4-1 record, tied with the Chesapeake Bayhawks for first place in the league.
Last year, the Cannons defeated the Lizards 15 -12 in the 2011 season opener. Ryan Boyle was the Bud Light Player of the Game with three goals and four assists. In their second game of the 2011 season, the Cannons powered past the Lizards with a decisive 19-8 win. Cannons goalie Jordan Burke was named Bud Light Player of the Game for his 24-save performance. In the final 2011 game between the Cannons and the Lizards, the Lizards escaped with a narrow win of 12-11 on their home field.
The Cannons enter this Saturday’s game with three players in the top 10 MLL leading scorers: Paul Rabil, Boyle, and Mike Stone hold spots 1, 4, and 7, respectively, while the Lizards only have one player represented at number six (Brian Langtry with 14 goals and 3 assists). The Lizards travel to Boston with an even 2-2 record, with wins over the expansion Charlotte Hounds and Ohio Machine and losses to the Bayhawks and Outlaws.
The Lizards are lead by Brian Langtry who has tallied 17 points this season, and Greg Gurenlian who has been named MLL Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the Cannons second game to be nationally televised in the 2012 MLL Season. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
