Will Manny goal in the top right corner of the net 1:47 into overtime. The victory gives the Cannons their fourth win on the season, their second against the Ohio Machine. The Coca-Cola player of the game,
Paul Rabil, assisted Manny on the goal, one of Rabil’s 5 assists on the game. The Cannons are now 4-4 on the season, while the Machine fall to 3-5.
Paul Rabil lead the team on offense, scoring 3 goals including 1 two point goal and tallying 5 assists. Goalie
Jordan Burke anchored the defense making 15 saves on 29 shots on goal. The win ties him for first all time in Boston Cannons history with 25 career wins.
Just 4 minutes and 16 seconds into the game Manny put the Cannons on the board. Ohio responded just 1 minutes and 22 seconds later with a goal from Steele Stanwick. The Cannons and Machine traded goals before Boston got 2 in a row to give them a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter started off with a goal from rookie
Rob Emery and was assisted by Will Manny. Manny scored the next goal for the Cannons, his third of the night to complete his hat trick after just 17. The Machine capitalized on a Boston penalty to bring the score to 6-3 with 12 minutes to play in the half. The Machine scored again quickly getting a goal from Kyle Harrison just 2 minutes later. The Cannons then scored 3 consecutive goals to end the half including a 2 point goal from Paul Rabil, his first 2 point goal of the season. At the half the Cannons led the Machine 9-6.
Harrison scored the first goal of the third quarter for the Machine after 3 minutes, but the cannons wasted no time responding just 1 minute later on a goal by
Kevin Buchanan. Buchanan scored again just 1 minute later after getting an assist from Paul Rabil. Ohio ended the quarter on a 2 goal run to bring the score to 12-10 in favor of Boston.
Will Manny and Paul Rabil each scored for the Cannons early in the 4
th quarter before Ohio scored on a shot from Peter Baum. Buchanan then scored 2 goals in a row to give the Cannons a 16-11 lead with just over 6 minutes left to play. After a Machine timeout Ohio scored 4 straight goals including a 2 point goal to even the score at 16 with just 1 minute and 12 seconds to play. The Cannons won the face off and had an opportunity to score the game winner at the end but their shot was saved to send the game to sudden death overtime.
Chris Eck won the face-off to begin overtime and win possession for the Cannons. After a Cannons timeout the team came out firing shots at the Ohio goalie. After 3 shots missed wide Paul Rabil found Will Manny who put home the game winning goal for the Cannons after 1 minute and 47 seconds. Will Manny ended the game with 5 goals and 1 assist.
There are many Cannons on display this coming Thursday when Team USA takes on the MLL All-Stars at Harvard Stadium at 7:30 pm.
