Boston, MA

Boston, MA (July 15, 2014) - The Boston Cannons look to build off  of their dominating win over the Denver Outlaws two weeks ago, before taking last week off due to the FIL World Championships. With the FIL Championship game going on later Saturday night in Denver, both teams will be missing players who are on Team USA and Team Canada. The Cannons have 4 players on Team USA: Paul Rabil, Kevin Buchanan, Mitch Belisle and Chris Eck, and Brodie Merrill plays for Team Canada. The Lizards have 6 players on Team USA: Ned Crotty, Rob Pannell, Max Seibald, Kyle Hartzell, Drew Adams, and Greg Gurenlian.

"We'll have to value possession and win our fair share of faceoffs to get the win," Cannons Head Coach John Tucker explained.

With both teams losing key players it will be important for the rest of the team to step up to the challenge. Offensively the Cannons have lost their 2 of best weapons in Rabil and Buchanan. Combined the two of them have 78 points on the year out of the Cannons 209 total points. Veterans Stephen Berger and Ryan Bolye will be looked towards to lead the offensive attack.  Berger has 30 points on the season (20 goals and 10 assists) and is the team's fifth leading scorer.

The Cannons will also be looking to their young talent this game to lead them to victory. In just his second season in the MLL  Will Manny will lead the attack, he has 23 goals and 15 assists on the year. Bursting onto the scene has been rookie  Rob Emery who was recently named Warrior Rookie of the Week for his 4 goal performance against the Denver Outlaws. Emery has 8 goals in 6 games played.

"Rookie Rob Rmery has done really well. He's got size, skill and talent showing and he'll step up,"  Coach Tucker stated.

Chris Eck, the face off specialist has taken all but 28 of the Cannons face offs this season.  Craig Bunker will get the call at the X on Saturday for the Cannons.  "We have complete confidence in Bunker this weekend,' said Coach Tucker.  He has been a great back-up to Chris all season and the coaches and players are ready to battle with him."

Belisle has been a key part of the defense this season, collecting 20 ground balls and playing in all 10 games. The Lizards also have lost a large part of their offence in Pannell, Crotty and Seibald who have combined for 81 points this year out of the Lizards 177, 45% of their season point total. Gurenlian, the Lizards faceoff specialist has taken 253 faceoff’s while his teammates have only taken 32, winning only 14 of the 32.

The Lizards biggest loss for the game may be Goalie Drew Adams, who has played in all 10 games so far for the Lizards. He boasts a 12.03 GAA and a save percentage of .513. His replacement Sean Brady has played in 2 games this season, for only 23 minutes and has allowed 3 goals and has made 3 saves.

The Cannons will be relying on to Jordan Burke to be solid in net, something he has been consistent with all season.

"Jordan Burke will be key for us this weekened. He's had some R&R and he's always dependable between the pipes," said Cannons Head Coach John Tucker.

A win for the Cannons would improve them to 6-4 on the year and into a tie with the New York Lizards for third place in the MLL Standings. With the new MLL Playoff format, the top 2 teams will have home field advantage for the semi-final matchup before the championship game that is held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, GA.

This Saturday's game will also be a Family Four Pack Night, which includes 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas for just $84.  Family 4-packs are available through 10am on Saturday by calling the Cannons front office at 617-746-9933.
