BOSTON, MA – July 30, 2012 – Boston Cannons attackman Ryan Boyle was named the week 12 MLL Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cannons to a 16-13 victory over the league-leading Chesapeake Bayhawks (9-3) on Saturday at Harvard Stadium. Boyle recorded eight points on two goals and six assists in the win to be the first Cannons player to receive offensive player of the week honors this season.
“Ryan showed great toughness and leadership in a game that was very important for us as a team,” said Cannons head coach Steve Duffy. “He’s always made plays with his assists, but he was able to create two tough goals for us in crucial situations as well.”
Earlier this season, Boyle broke the MLL all-time career assists record when he reached 212 on June 1 in Rochester. (The record was previously held by former Cannon Conor Gill). With 16 goals and 30 assists for 46 points on the season, Boyle is the Cannons’ second leading scorer in 2012. This is Boyle’s 6
th career Player of the Week honor.
The Cannons conclude their home schedule this Saturday, August 4 against the Ohio Machine at 7pm. The last place Machine have been eliminated from playoff contention, but the Cannons still need to clinch a spot at Championship Weekend, which will take place at Harvard Stadium on August 25 & 26.
