Cannons in the NLL

February 22, 2011
It was a successful weekend in the NLL for the Cannons as all of the players who were active this weekend helped their teams to victory.

Kevin Buchanan had a big game as the Boston Blazers defeated the Minnesota Swarm for their fourth win in a row. Buchanan had three goals and an assist to go along with a pair of loose balls and forced turnovers. Buchanan currently sits second on the Blazers and 13 thin the NLL with 15 goals. Mitch Belisle also got on the score sheet in Minnesota with a goal, his second of the year. Belisle and teammates Jack Reid and Greg Downing each had four loose balls. Reid also forced a turnover to bring his total for the year to 12, eighth in the NLL. The Blazers defense was important in the victory, holding the Swarm to only two goals. The Blazers have won four straight games and sit at 6-3, one game behind the Toronto Rock for the best record in the East division and the NLL.

Paul Rabil and the Washington Stealth were at home, taking on the Colorado Mammoth Friday night. Rabil had a goal and three assists in the win. He also continued his solid defensive game, picking up five loose balls. Rabil continues to lead the NLL in loose balls this year with 98 through nine games. However, the real story of this game was the lopsided score. The Stealth lead 11-2 at half time and 12-2 after the third quarter on their way to a 20-7 victory. The Stealth are now 4-5 on the season and third in the West division.

The Philadelphia Wings got back in the win column this weekend as they won a close game over the Buffalo Bandits, 10-9. Cannons attackman Ryan Boyle had three assists in the game, including a pass to Drew Westervelt for the game winning goal with just over a minute to play. Boyle also had five loose balls while teammate Kyle Sweeney had four. Patrick Heim missed his third game of the year. After struggling to begin the year, the Wings are now even at 4-4, but they sit in fourth in the tough East division.
